Finances

Confluence International is a voluntary organization.  All members of its Supervisory Board and all members of its Management are volunteers and serve without compensation. Board and Management members pay their expenses themselves from their own resources, and they are not reimbursed. Since the organisation makes no payments and receives no income or grants, no financial records or balance sheets are needed. However, as required by Dutch law, the organization does make timely quarterly reports to the VAT section of the Dutch Belastingdienst (Tax Authority)

Management

  • Founder // Managing Director

In 1982, John founded Search for Common Ground, which he led for the next 32 years. With his wife, Susan Collin Marks, he built Search into the world’s largest peacebuilding organization. Search was nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. John also founded and headed Common Ground Productions. The vision that drove — and still drives — his work is to transform how countries and individuals deal with conflict — away from adversarial, win-lose propositions to non-adversarial, win-win problem-solving. He is a former U.S. diplomat, a current social entrepreneur, a best-selling author, an Ashoka Senior Fellow, and a Skoll Awardee. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate at the UN’s University of Peace, and he currently is a Visiting Scholar at Leiden University.

  • Project Coordinator

Brandon’s background spans activism, academia, performance arts, and even acrobatics, including accolades from Fulbright Scholar to Grammy Nominee. Originally from Tennessee, he organized clean energy campaigns across the Southeast before pursuing music in Los Angeles, both on-stage and in-studio. Performing on tuba, bass, and trombone, international tours with the California Feetwarmers and the Blasting Company led to international cultural diplomacy tours and composing for Over the Garden Wall. He holds a Master’s in Conflict Resolution & Governance from the University of Amsterdam, where he now teaches and researches as a Junior Lecturer in Political Science. He and his partner live on a 124-year old houseboat in Amsterdam.
